PLAYING IN THE RAIN
DRY
WET
"Splashing Around" was the name of AATCC's 2018 Student Design Competition. The competition was consistent of an apparel line that was both functional and innovative for an outdoor activity in the rain.
The purpose of my designs in "Playing in the Rain" was to create apparel for children aged 4-10 that prevented injuries which often occur on the playground when it is slippery or wet from rainfall. I did this through weft knitted spacer fabrics to provide safety while also increasing breathability. The prints I created (featured on the right) are yardage of rotary screen printed fabric with hydrochromic ink, which allowed the apparel to change color when touched by rain water, adding a playful approach to cater greater towards children. The AATCC test methods that reinforce my designs are test methods 22 (water repellency) and 70 (water absorption).

BALANCED EVOLUTION
The inspiration for the textile and scarf prints is taken from the balance between nature and a city landscape. Two of the diamonds are the evolution of cities, originating from dirt, the diamond evolves to a railroad track, signifying an industrial revolution. This revolution created skyscrapers which lead to the development of a city. Similar to the city the other two diamonds also originate from dirt of the earth, but contain photographs of elements that are found from nature (insects, plants, clouds, etc).
The meaning of this design, along with the scarf and textile prints presented on this board, are my original work created through photographs. These photographs are showcased at the top of this inspiration board. Louis Vuitton’s S/S Resort 2019, white dress, is the garment that is being used to present my engineered textile print.

OASIS
Oasis is inspired by one of the grandest cities in the world, Dubai. As the city progressed and there became great economic growth, modern architecture developments and skyscrapers grew at the edge of the Arabian Desert. As you view the windows on the buildings of the city, the desert's barren environment is reflected, reminding Dubai of its roots, the desert. These five prints appreciate the culture, traditions, and landscapes of Dubai.
The target market is women aged 25-35 years old. Our consumer is taking independency head on. She is expressive and passionate about staying true to Dubai's traditions

KISSED
Repeatable half drop and block textile design.
For this print, I created the lips through brush tool on Adobe Photoshop, while emphasizing shadows and highlights through the burn and dodge tool. Creativity is something I try to constantly put into my designs so creating a repeatable pattern, that still appeared as a work of art, is something I strived to create when working on "Kissed".
